My sub expired back in March. Last night I was trying out this customization suite called 'Seven Transformation Pack 1.0'.  Anyway, didn't like how it slowed my system down.  So I unistalled it, and then tried to reapply Windowblinds 6.3 and it didn't work. Now that the sub has expired, ODNT won't let me reinstall.  How do I reinstall WB 6.3? Do I do it through ODNT or Impulse? Your help is much appreciated.

I am curious about this myself, I bought Object Desktop Ultimate over a year ago (maybe 2) and reformated my comp and now can't reinstall. It keeps asking me to renew my subscription? Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention when I bought the program(for quite abit mind you), but is this a year rental thing? I was under the impression that I knew I would not get any new updates after a year, but disabling the program altogether, even though it worked fine on my XP machine? If its just a rental thing I will NEVER renew to a newer version of Object Desktop agian.

Yes, as I understood it, when your subscription expired you weould able to access everything that you had installed up to the time your subscription expired.  That means no new updates, but you could still access your old updates.  I really wish that you could just download the program and then install from an .exe file. It would make doing any backup or reinstall of those files so much easier.

Unfortunately, the functionality to download and install old versions of ODNT apps is not yet in Impulse.  Until then, if you need archives for older versions from before your sub expired e-mail support@stardock.com and we can get you a link.  Keep in mind that we offer this as a courtesy, and you should really be making your own archives of the ODNT applications for reinstall (or you could renew and get the latest updates )

Thanks Shirley! While I would love to renew right now it isn't possible, but once some things have turneed around, that's one of the things that I'm anticipating greatly.  I'll shoot an e-mail off to supprt and hopefully be able to get bacl to the awsome skins and themes theat are just waiting to be shown off.

I hear ya on that. I was planning to renew in late July or early Aug. Had to wipe my hard drive too and now no DesktopX. There ought to be a way you can just download your old version. I would think that they at least owe you a disk (in the mail) with your version on it when you subscribe.

notanymore: Read above.  Send an e-mail to support@stardock.com and we'll send you links to the latest archives of the apps we have before your subscription expired.

I see this a lot in the forums, and although we do have archives available for downloading should something happen if you plan to let your Object Desktop Subscription lapse, you should be making your own archives of the apps.  We offer these archives as a courtesy, not as a backup strategy.  Object Desktop is a subscription ultimately, and if you let that subscription expire, you will not easily be able to redownload those applications.

I'll offer this answer as a courtesy too:

Replies like the above one make me think seriously about not renewing my subscription anymore!

Which reply was that?  The one that indicted that the buyer was responsible for maintaining thier app after their subscription ran out?

This hasn't really ever changed.  This doesn't mean that we don't have the archives available if you need them, it just means that you should be making them yourself so you don't need to e-mail us and wait to get the links to them.

Where does Impulse archive the installation files?  Not that I won't renew or anything of course...

the default location for impulse backups is C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Impulse\backup

You can change that by going to the Orb | Preferences | Folders

You can use the Archive/Restore feature in Impulse, to first Archive the application, and then Restore them at a later time.

Please follow this procedure to archive an application:

-Launch Impulse, right click on the application you want to make an archive of and choose "Download and Archive".  This will not install the application, but simply get an archive for it that can be restored later (NOTE: This option is not available if the app is already installed)
-Once you've archived the application you want, copy the archive (located by default in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Impulse\backup for Vista or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\backup in XP) and the Impulse installer ( http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup.exe)to a portable media.

To restore at a later time
-Copy the saved impulse_setup.exe file onto the computer.
-Run the Impulse installer
-Copy the archived files into C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Impulse\backup for Vista or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\backup in XP
-Click the Impulse logo in the upper left and click 'Restore archive" and select the archive(s) you wish to restore.

You will have to re-activate the application in order to continue to receive free updates.
